Have you ever needed to register a publication in the IS, find out the quartile of a journal, or get some advice on whether your chosen journal is considered to be predatory? Have you needed help with searching online databases or to get advice on what type of result to assign to your publication? You may have used the email address infoveda@fss.muni.cz for this. If so, you probably received a reply from Bc. Blanka Farkašová, who is one of the people in our library that takes care of all of these things along with many others.
Blanka made it to FSS from Vysočina (49.5081206N, 15.3702700E) via England and the USA, where she was taking care of children for four years. She has been caring for us with the same kindness and gentleness since January 2003. At the library she is part of the lending-services team. She is responsible for making sure that books and other publications are always in their place so that we can find them easily. Would you believe that this job also requires being in good shape? In 2005, for example, Blanka was involved in moving the FSS library collection into the new building. At that time, it meant moving about 35,000 books from Arne Novak to Joštova street, which is about 18-20 tons of wisdom. But working in a library is first and foremost a service to people, so in addition to muscles, you also need kindness, helpfulness, and friendliness. “Blanka fulfills this to the utmost. She is a model example for me of what perfect service should look like,” says Vice Dean Martin Vaculík.
In addition to taking care of the library collection, Blanka also supports publishing. If you don't want to take the time to fill in all the boxes in the IS when registering your publication, contact Blanka. She will register the publication for you. “Since 2017 Blanka has been preparing annual publication summaries for our departmental evaluation and the budget allocation. There must be no errors in the data. And there hasn’t been an error in any of the summaries over the years, and that means about 1,200 publications! Blanka is a form of reassurance and I am very happy that I can rely on her for this important matter”, adds the Vice Dean.
Blanka can be found at the lending desk in the library, in the office on the ground floor, or at the above-mentioned address infoveda@fss.muni.cz.
Do you know that...
- we have about 88,000 books and other documents in our library today
- their total weight is about 40 tons
- if we stacked all the books side by side from the entrance of FSS, we would make a path to the entrance of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, Jurkovič's Villa, or the city district of Stará Osada
- it usually takes Blanka about 15 minutes to register one publication if all fields are filled in correctly. How long does it take you?
